Help Support Immigrant Families!

POWER's Women Workers Project is looking to expand it's phone tree and YOU can help!

In the past year, immigrant families and people of color have experienced more and more unwarranted stops by the SFPD than ever before. Seeking to recover costs due to the California budget crisis, working families are being targeted to recuperate for broke municipalities on a local and federal level. If a car is towed and impounded, it can cost a family up to $2500 to get it back, and those funds go straight to the tow company as well as the city.

Thanks to the work of community organizations such as POWER, San Francisco's SFPD issued a general order allowing drivers 20 minutes to find a driver if they are stopped and are driving without a CA driver's license (licenses from other states, countries are not valid).

If you would like to aid a working family and have a valid California license and registration, please join our phone tree by emailing us your name and phone number to phonetree@peopleorganized.org! You may only be a text away from being able to help your neighbor and offset this tremendous financial burden for immigrant families.
